What this course is about
Unit standard- 120496 is a 4- day course with 40 hours of homework where the summative assessment needs to be completed and signed off either at work or in school and a formative assessment to follow in class with practical testing is required
Subjects covered:
Theory: scene and patient safety. Communicable disease and prevention, vital signs, basic human anatomy, shock, bleeding control, chest injuries, spontaneous pneumothorax and tension pneumothorax, tension haemothorax, penetrating chest injuries, barrier trauma ( blast injuries), environmental emergencies, spinal injuries, hand, ear, nose and eye injuries ,fractures, seizures and head injury, burns. CPR infant, adults and choking and poisons, diabetic emergencies
Practical: vitals, splinting, bandaging, Cardio pulmonary resuscitation and Heimlicht maneuver, immobilization, ear, nose and eye treatment and chest injuries, treatment of poisons
